Antioxidants such as vitamin C and vitamin E protect the cells from oxidative stress¹ and, according to science, are vital for healthy cell metabolism. At first glance this might sound rather abstract, but perhaps the following picture will help: A banana gets brown spots after only a few days. The cause of this is oxidative damage by atmospheric oxygen, also known as oxidative stress.
