Mitochondria are considered the "powerhouses of the cells" and are significantly involved in providing energy for almost all processes in the body. According to estimates, around 90% of the body's own energy is produced in the mitochondria. Since almost every cell contains mitochondria, their function influences a multitude of physical & mental processes and forms the foundation for energy metabolism.
New mitochondria are not created out of thin air, but rather by existing mitochondria growing and dividing. This process is called mitochondrial biogenesis. For it to succeed, the genetic material in the cell nucleus & the mitochondrial DNA must work closely together, because most of the building blocks of the mitochondria are encoded in the cell nucleus. Biogenesis is controlled by signaling pathways that sense the energy state of the cell. PQQ (Pyrroloquinoline quinone) is a vitamin-like compound that has increasingly come into focus in research in recent years. Alpha-lipoic acid, on the other hand, has been known for much longer: It was discovered back in 1951 and is produced by the body itself in the mitochondria. PQQ occurs only in very small amounts in the daily diet, which can make targeted supplementation useful.

The formulation is specifically supplemented with alpha-lipoic acid, vitamin B6,, natural vitamin C & vitamin E, thus creating a synergistically coordinated combination - vitamin B6 and vitamin C contribute to energy metabolism¹.
Alpha-lipoic acid is an endogenous compound that the body itself produces in the mitochondria, the place where a large part of the body's own energy is generated. In bound form, it is also found in foods, especially in offal such as kidney, heart, and liver, as well as in spinach & broccoli. Our PQQ Total delivers 20 mg of alpha-lipoic acid per daily dose in the R-form, i.e., the form that also occurs in the human body.
The included vitamin B6 in the bioactive form can additionally support cell energy1 and counteract fatigue3. The formulation is rounded off with natural vitamin C from rosehips, which contributes to energy1, mental balance2,3 & the immune system4 . The newly added vitamin E supports cell protection5 together with vitamin C.
