Our MITOcare add·on Selenium combines essential selenium as sodium selenate with the organic sulphur compound MSM (methylsulphonylmethane). As sodium selenite, selenium can interact with vitamin C. However, this interaction can be avoided by using sodium selenate. In the body, selenium is mainly incorporated into enzymes and proteins, which fulfil numerous functions. Selenium is, for example, a component of the enzyme/selenoprotein glutathione peroxidase and supports the protection of cells from oxidative stress1 as well as the function of the immune system2 and thyroid3. Selenium is also a cofactor for healthy hair and nails4,5. In this product, selenium is complemented by the organic sulphur compound methylsulphonylmethane (MSM), which is a component of S-adenosylmethionine, glutathione and N-acethylcysteine in the body. Sulphur cannot be produced by the body itself either but must be supplied through food.
